City of Pasadena 2010 Homeless Count Completed
The total number of homeless adults and children counted was 1,137 which represents an increase of 13% when compared to the number of homeless persons counted last year. Urban Initiatives served as consultant to the City of Pasadena and the Pasadena Housing and Homeless Network to complete the count. The Office for Urban Initiatives at Fuller Seminary, which was established a few years ago by Urban Initiatives, provided over 60 seminary students who counted homeless persons on the streets and in shelters with the guidance of the Pasadena Police Department's Homeless Outreach Psychiatric Evaluation (HOPE) Team and Park Safety Specialists, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, and Pacific Clinics Passageways Street Outreach Team. City of Pasadena 2010 Homeless Survey Completed
The Office for Urban Initiatives at Fuller Seminary administered a survey with more than 100 questions to 20% of the city's homeless population. Survey results will be available in May.
County of Ventura 2010 Homeless Count Completed
Urban Initiatives served as consultant to the Ventura Homeless and Housing Coalition for the homeless count. Results will be available in April.
County of Ventura 2010 Homeless Survey
Urban Initiatives is also serving as consultant to the Ventura Homeless and Housing Coalition concerning the administration of a more than 100 question survey to 20% of the County's homeless population. Results will be available in June.

Urban Initiatives is serving as a consultant for other community-based activities which include:
Human Trafficking in Southern California is a joint effort with Oasis USA, the Western U.S. Office for Stop the Traffik and the Office for Urban Initiatives at Fuller Theological Seminary. Through this partnership, a survey will be completed that will describe the needs of women and men who have been trafficked into Southern California from Asian countries. Homeless Assessment for Simi Valley, CA is a joint effort with the City of Simi Valley which will note gaps in homeless services and provide recommendations to fill such gaps.
Tamales de la Paz (Peace) is coordinated by Urban Initiatives in partnership with Los Angeles Councilmember Ed P. Reyes, - District 1 and other community organizations. It is an annual event of community solidarity that helps bring peace and healing to past events and outstanding issues that have troubled the MacArthur Park neighborhood. Such events and issues include the May 1, 2007 confrontation between rally and march supporters, media, police, and others in the park. The event will take place on Friday, April 30 beginning at 5:00 pm at Mama's Hot Tamales Café. Click here to view last year's event.

Urban Initiatives (formerly known as the Institute for Urban Research and Development)
responds to the economic, housing, and social needs of neighborhoods, cities, and counties from
local, regional, national, international, and faith-based perspectives through program development and community-based research. Such activities has focused on affordable housing, business development and education for micro-businesses, fair housing, health care, homelessness, human trafficking, migrant farming, and street vending.
