Mama’s Merging Markets

Mama’s Tamale Markets are temporary and permanent markets that help transform businesses, community centers, neighborhoods, parks, sidewalks, streets, and other public and private spaces into family, fun, and festive places where art, food, music, and recreation blend together and create vital and vibrant social and educational experiences for all ages.

Who Is Mama?

Sandi Romero is “Mama” who has helped establish temporary and permanent markets throughout Los Angeles County. Such markets often involve tamales which has a rich history of bringing families and neighborhoods together for festive occasions.

The tamales that she brings to various places are a fusion of culture and community. Her assortment of tamales are a mix of foods unlike other tamales. Her tamales have been mixed with Kimchi, pastrami, Kobe beef, curries, and more.

Her tamales are also mixed with a wide range of the talents of the numerous community groups and individuals that partner with her to transform public and private spaces into family, fun, and festive events. She now refers to her tamales as

Talents for
Art,
Meals,
Artisan,
Labor,
